Noodle vs Google Keep: an honest comparison
Google Keep is quick, free and on your phone, browser and watch. Noodle is a free Android app that reads what you save and keeps it on your phone. When each one fits.
On this page
For shopping lists and quick notes, pick Google Keep. It's probably on your phone already, it's free, and it's on your laptop and watch too. Noodle is for a different moment: the cooking video you saved in March and want back on a Sunday in June. We make Noodle, so keep that in mind; the Keep facts link to Google's own help pages.
Which one to pick
- Pick Google Keep if you want quick notes, checklists and shopping lists on your phone, computer and watch, shared with family. Or if you already use Google's apps for everything.
- Pick Noodle if you save a lot of videos, Instagram posts, articles and screenshots on Android and keep losing them, and you'd like what you save to stay on your phone.
- Pick both if lists and saves are two separate jobs for you. Keep holds the lists; Noodle holds what you collect.
What each one is
Google Keep is Google's notes app, around since 2013. You write notes and checklists, add photos, drawings and voice recordings, color them, add labels, pin the important ones and set reminders. It syncs through your Google account to the web, Android, iPhone and Wear OS watches, and you can share a note and edit it together. "Grab image text" pulls the words out of a photo when you ask it to. On Android, Gemini can now help create lists and title notes.
Noodle is a free Android app for saving and finding. Share a YouTube video, an Instagram post, a web page, a photo, a PDF or a voice message into it, and Noodle reads it: what the video says, the words in a photo, the text of an article. Later you find it by describing what you remember. It also has a short daily to-do list and reminders from dates it spots in your saves. Everything stays on your phone (how it works).
How we compared
We used the same 10 criteria for every app in this series: how you save, what it reads, how you find things, AI, offline use, privacy, devices, sharing, writing and price. Facts about Keep come from Google's Keep and Wear OS help pages, checked in October 2026. We didn't run a long hands-on test of Keep for this post, so we stick to what Google documents. Google changes Keep's Gemini features often, and some depend on your plan, phone and country. The Noodle column describes the app as it is today.
How they compare, feature by feature
As of October 2026. Check the sources below for the latest.
| Google Keep | Noodle | |
|---|---|---|
| Saving from other apps | Share sheet saves text, links and images as a note; widget | Share from any app: links, photos, videos, PDFs, WhatsApp voice messages and contacts; the + tab builds one item from several parts |
| What it reads for you | Words in a photo when you tap "Grab image text" | What a YouTube video says, Instagram captions and the words in their images, articles, words in photos, PDF pages, voice notes, all without asking |
| Finding things | Word search, labels, colors, filters by type | Finds things from a description, even with different words; finds photos by what's in them |
| AI and where it runs | Gemini creates lists from a prompt and suggests note titles, on Android, with Google AI Pro or Ultra or a Pixel phone; Google's help page doesn't say where it runs | Ask Noodle, an optional one-time download that runs on your phone; simpler answers than big online assistants |
| Offline | Notes on the phone work offline and sync later | Everything works offline except reading a new link |
| Privacy | Stored in your Google account, on Google's servers | Nothing you save is uploaded; no ads, no tracking |
| Devices and sync | Web, Android, iPhone, Wear OS, all in sync | Android only; no sync; manual backup file |
| Sharing and collaboration | Share notes and lists, edit together | None |
| Writing and editing | Quick notes and checklists, light formatting | Plain notes and titles |
| Price | Free with a Google account | Free; a paid Cloud plan is planned, not available yet |

Where Google Keep is better
- It's everywhere. Phone, browser, iPhone, watch. Write a shopping list on your laptop and tick it off on your phone in the shop. Noodle is Android only and doesn't sync.
- Shared lists. Share a grocery list with your partner and you both edit it. Noodle can't share anything.
- Speed for tiny notes. Keep opens fast and stays out of the way. For "buy milk" or where you parked, it's hard to beat.
- Checklists. Keep's are simple and quick to tick. Noodle has a daily to-do list, Plan, but no standalone lists you can share.
- Backup you don't think about. Your notes live in your Google account, so a new phone has them right away. Noodle's backup is a file you export yourself.
- Track record. Keep has been around since 2013, comes from Google and is on the Play Store. Noodle launched in 2026, comes from a small team and is installed from a download on our website.
- Bigger AI, if you want it. Gemini is a large online model. Ask Noodle runs on your phone, gives simpler answers, takes storage and works best on newer phones.
Where Noodle is better
- It reads videos and posts. Share a YouTube video and Noodle knows what's said in it, so a search for a tip from the middle jumps to that moment. It also reads Instagram captions, the words in their images and the full text of articles. Keep saves the link.
- It reads everything without being asked. Every photo and screenshot has its words read, every PDF page too. Then you find it by typing what you remember.
- Search by meaning. "That recipe with the crispy chickpeas" finds the video even if it's called "Easy weeknight bowls". Keep's search matches the words you type. Noodle also works across languages, since it translates what it reads into English.
- Organized for you. Noodle suggests a category and tags for each save, and anything you haven't filed waits in To organize. In Keep, the labels and colors are up to you.
- Reminders from your saves. Save a photo of an insurance letter and Noodle spots the end date and offers a reminder a month before. Keep has reminders, but you set them yourself.
Price and privacy
Keep is free with a Google account, as of October 2026. The Gemini features in Keep need a Google AI Pro or Ultra plan or a Pixel phone (Gemini in Keep). Your notes are stored in your Google account, under Google's privacy policy.
Noodle is free, with a paid Cloud plan planned but not available (pricing). Nothing you save is uploaded, and the app has no ads and no tracking (privacy).
Switching or using both
There's no import from Keep, so moving your notes over means copying them by hand. Most people won't need to. Keep stays the place for shopping lists, quick notes and anything you share with family. Noodle becomes the place for the videos, posts, articles and screenshots you want to keep. They don't get in each other's way.
